Updated On: Jun 22, 2021

Local S-6 Announcement via MAC,

"It is my pleasure to congratulate Mr. Bob Koenig on his promotion to Fire Chief.

Bob is a Fire Service veteran with 23 years of service at Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) and was selected to serve as Fire Chief following an extensive national search.

Chief Koenig is uniquely qualified to lead the MAC’s Fire Department. Over the course of the past two-plus decades, Chief Koenig has demonstrated immense technical and tactical leadership abilities and will continue to ensure our organization is prepared for every type of emergency response.

Koenig has served as a Shift Commander since May 2013. Prior to that, he worked as a Firefighter, Driver and Captain. He has worked in the Fire Service since 1989.

“I have always had a strong desire to serve and assist others in their time of need,” said Koenig. “I look forward to leading the dedicated professionals from MSP’s Fire Department and maintaining our commitment to working in concert with the other airport departments. The way the MAC team works together to solve problems is inspiring and shows we have a strong airport community. I am honored to serve as the Chief of the Airport Fire Department.”

Koenig holds a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology from University of Wisconsin – Stout and an associate’s degree in Fire Science from The Community College of the Air Force. He is also a retired member of the Minnesota Air National Guard, where he served as the 133rd Fire Chief for eight years during his 21 years with the organization.

Please help me in congratulating Bob as he assumes his new role on Saturday June 19th."
